Miemon, head of Kitashirakawa clan that owns the shrine, decides to sell it as worshipper attendance has fallen since the death of the girl’s mother, whom he insults. Uryu challenges Miemon; if they attract 5000 visitors during the festival, he will keep supporting them. Miemon agrees, but warns if they do not get 5000 then he will also sell their house.
