Ranma and Ryoga realize that they must cooperate if they want to win the match. After successfully baiting Mikado and Azuza, Ryoga and Ranma end up winning the match. Ryoga however, wanting to settle the score with Ranma then and there, starts fighting with him in the middle of the broken rink. Akane ends up interfering, demanding to know the reason for their intense rivalry, but the ice beneath her breaks, causing Akane (who doesn't know how to swim) to drown in the frozen lake, as Ranma and Ryoga jump into the water to save her...
