Hazel, frightened over her own transformation, eventually calms down and returns to normal to reveal that she was well aware of their plan to get rid of Tuba, despite Grace's disapproval. Hazel starts to believe that Simon will kill her too and Grace teaches her to be calm. They keep the transformation a secret before Grace "pulls rank" on Simon. They traverse the Campfire Car with Hazel asking that they hold a funeral using a glowing stone that belonged to her. Simon, frustrated over the whole situation, decides to wait by the exit as the Apex Car is just ahead...
